Abstract

Objective: To systematically summarize the clinical application and dosage‑compatibility patterns of Trichosanthis Radix in treating dryness syndromes. Methods: Literature from classical famous prescriptions, renowned senior TCM practitioners, experts from the Committee on Dose‑Effect of Chinese Materia Medica, and contemporary clinicians was retrieved to extract dosage ranges and compatibility characteristics. Results: The decoction dosage of Trichosanthis Radix for dryness syndromes ranges from 6 to 30 g, with a common dosage of 10–15 g; the compatibility and dosage vary according to different types of dryness syndromes. Conclusion: Trichosanthis Radix is effective in clearing heat, generating fluid, moistening dryness, and quenching thirst. It is indicated for lung‑stomach dryness‑heat, dry cough, constipation, and dryness arthralgia (Sjögren’s syndrome), but its contraindications should be strictly observed.
